"Lack of interpersonal communication skills"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I had a major operation at a private hospital and was discharged when I was better. However I had developed an infection and had to come to A n E at Whipps.  After spending nearly 6 hours in A n E I was transferred to a room in Rowans Ward. The room and bathroom were dirty and did not get cleaned until the 2nd day.  It seemed to me that the staff were I'll informed, lacked interpersonal communication skills and I had to remind them about the drugs that were needed and that I was nil by mouth on 2 separate occasions as ordered by the Dr's .They were giving me oral drugs. Every time I asked for information on my procedures or treatment the response was we are contract staff an do not know the procedure of this hospital,

Lack of care and support was evident in every nurse I saw. The nurses and healthcare assistants had a bickering match in front of patients as to who's job was what. I witnessed unbelievably appalling standards in staff , wards and bathrooms.

Dear SM42

Thank you for taking time to contact us with feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your experience falls short of the standards of care expected at all Barts hospital sites. We have forwarded the feedback to Rowan ward management but we would like an opportunity to discuss your concerns in great detail.

Please contact our PALs team on site on 0208 535 6438 or email WXpals@bartshealth.nhs.uk or Junction 5 Main building Whipps Cross hospital.

We are looking forward to hearing from you soon

Kind regards
