"My 6 year old son was refused an appointment"

About: St Catherine's Surgery

We called for an appointment for my little boy for a doctor to check out a rather large wart like lump on his finger.

It has become so large that it is causing pain and discomfort.

He had banged it in school and it has become weepy and crusty, looks infected.

We got through to receptionist who asked what was wrong, put us on hold and then came back with the shocking response of "Doctors here do not deal with warts, you will have to go privately to have it removed"

Is this receptionist medically trained?

How is a 6 year old little boy meant to pay privately? How is a little boy meant to be referred to go privately if he cant past the receptionist to see a doctor.

I cant believe my son has been refused to see a doctor to see if the lump on his finger is a wart or something more sinister.

Thank you for your feedback.

At the outset, I would like to apologise for any distress this matter has caused and to reassure you that this was not our intention.

I have discussed this call with our Reception Supervisor who was shocked to hear of this review as she had felt that the call had ended on a positive note and seemed happy with the advice given. I believe that you called asking for an appointment for your Son who has a wart that had gone bigger. You were informed that we do not remove warts at the Practice and offered a self help leaflet to help with the removal of the wart. I also believe that an appointment was offered for Friday for review if you were concerned about the wart and this was declined and you advised that you would pick up the leaflet?

Again I would like to apologise for any misunderstanding and would be happy to discuss this further if you wish?

Regards,

Janine Clarke
