I would just like to express my disappointment at the steps I am having to go through to have a severe issue dealt with.
A month ago I asked my GP for an ENT referral due to a low frequency humming sound in my left ear. Despite not suffering from hearing loss, my GP also said they would refer me for a hearing test, however this was simply something they offered as an extra test, just in case.
After contacting the referral management team today I was told that - unbeknownst to me - my ENT appointment has been merged with an audiologist appointment wherein I will be given some questions and a general hearing assessment, before a decision is made whether or not to refer me to an ENT. Furthermore, this initial appointment could take 15 weeks, followed by another wait for a follow up.
Since requesting a referral my condition has become significantly worse, to the extent I have an overwhelming sound in my ear all throughout the day. This is making it difficult to sleep and concentrate, and is causing me a great deal of distress. It is affecting my mental health.
I understand that waiting lists can be long and that there may be people with similar or worse afflictions than myself, however I do not feel that my specific concerns and issues have been taken into account. I do not believe I am suffering from any form of hearing loss. This is not my issue and a referral was only put through as a 'we may as well...' situation. The thought of having to wait 15 weeks for a quick hearing test, before being told to wait longer until someone can address my actual issue is extremely distressing.
