"Nearly always positive in my experience"

About: The Argyle Surgery

Have been a patient for 20 years and while it's become more difficult to get an appointment when preferred over the years, the service received has still been very good or excellent on the big majority of occasions I've been in contact or had appointments.

I've found the GPs, nurses and reception staff nearly always willing to listen and helpful and I feel they cope extremely well given the pressures on the NHS, especially with large patient numbers.

The only recurring problem I've had that others have noted, is that it's usually difficult to get an emergency appointment even when urgent unless you phone or visit at the right time. Of course there is the out of hours service and A&E, but a surgery appointment would usually be more convenient ti most.

However, I've sometimes had appointments by phone which go some way to meet the need.

I note there are longer Saturday morning opening hours now, and welcome that .

Should help to reduce the fear of an emergency happening over the weekend without medical support.

Dear patient,

Thank you very much for your feedback. Any comments are always more than welcome. We are pleased that the team have met your expectations over the past two decades at the surgery.

You may be interested to know that we now operate a new system around same day appointments. You first make an appointment for a telephone consultation with our Advanced Nurse Practitioners who are experts in managing urgent cases. We have this process running every weekday in the mornings.

Then based on the outcome of the consultation you will be advised to a) pickup prescriptions directly at your usual pharmacy if you need a prescribed drug to help with your condition, b) come in (usually in the same afternoon) to see the same nurse or c) come in to see a GP.

This process ensures that we have more urgent appointments available and patients can see the most appropriate member of the team.

We also operate a GP and nurse service in the evenings and weekends at a nearby practice. To book an appointment between 6.30 and 8.00 p.m. on weekdays and 8.00 to 8.00 on Saturdays and Sundays you need to either contact our reception during our opening hours or call 111 when we are closed.

Thanks again for your valuable feedback.

Take care from the team at the Argyle Surgery.
