"Broken Ankle"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Following a fall whilst visiting family, I found myself requiring an ambulance for the first time in my life. The ambulance staff were outstanding and provided me with first class medical care.

Arriving at Medway Maritime, i was seen quickly by a doctor and sent for x-rays very quickly. Within minutes of my x-ray, a doctor came to see me to let me know that my ankle was badly broken and dislocated and would need immediate treatment and surgery.

Again i was quickly seen by an A&E consultant who explained detail what he needed to do before i could be admitted to a ward. He outlined the procedures of realigning my ankle in detail but with care and made me feel at ease. The procedure was carried out and i was impressed by the nurses and doctors present.

I was admitted to Pembroke ward and from there on, my treatment and care was outstanding. It was my first experience in hospital and i was treated with genuine care and respect.

The following morning the consultant and his team explained the operation and the ensuing plan to aid my recovery. I was impressed. They operated when they said they would and i was involved and informed at every point.

Sadly, I’m not from Kent and so my treatment had to continue in another area. However, the treatment in my own area has been less than satisfactory and i wish i had been able to see my treatment through at Medway Maritime.

Every single member of staff i came across was outstanding and were a credit to the NHS. The ward was clean and full of caring staff. I cannot thank them enough for the care they gave me.
