I arrived at the clinic for a surgical abortion at 10 weeks. I didn’t have to wait long and it all seemed to happen quite quickly, I was out in just under 2 hours.
Firstly I was called to give my consent, this nurse was very matter of fact and not all that friendly and caring but perhaps she just wanted to get the job done. I then went to another waiting room to be called to go up to the theatre, here I only waiting 5/10 mins. I got called and went upstairs where I went to a changing room to get ready, I then very quickly got called in to theatre. As I entered the room it was a bit daunting as there were 6/7 different people in there but I got introduced to them all. I was asked to lay on the bed and I had such a lovely nurse hold my hand and talk so nicely to me, trying to distract me whilst the cannula was inserted. She made me feel so at ease in such a horrible situation. I was then very shortly feeling sleepy and then the next minute I was woken up sitting in the recovery room - no recollection of what happened in theatre of how I got to the recovery room. I was given some tablets (I wasn’t told what they were), drink and biscuits and within about 10 minutes asked to get dressed. I then had my blood pressure taken and the cannula removed and then it was time to go.
If I had know how the experience would go then I wouldn’t have been nervous at all, pleasant experience for a horrible situation.
"Good experience"
