"High cholesterol and not wanting to take statins"

About: United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

(as a service user),

I had my first consultation and was asked about my family history and asked to provide information about my daughters cholesterol level. I was next booked for a CAT scan and the heart revealed no trace of calcium but my consultant would let me off the hook and suggested 10 mg atorvastatin as he felt it would be safer for me to try it. I had eclampsia with my twins and knew my kidneys had suffered so was reluctant to go on statins. My consultant has called on the telephone to say the levels have reduced to a satisfactory level and he has signed me off with regular blood tests and said the test had revealed no damage to kidneys or liver so am on them for life!

Hello Mad Hatter & thank you for posting.

I am pleased that your test results came back so positive and the consultation went well - but I cant quite tell whether or not you are happy with continuing on the atorvastatin? It is important that we all understand the medications we are taking so if you do have any questions or concerns then please get back in contact or speak with your GP or pharmacist.

Take care and thank you again.

Jennie
