Over the past 3 days my partner has been in two different wards and experience exactly the same issues in both - lack of staff covering the night shift, On the first night I was so concerned that I actually sat by their bedside all night as I was promised that they would be monitored every two hours but the only time anyone came to see them was at my request. I was then informed by a member of staff that works at the hospital that they were suprised the ward remains open with the low volume of staff. In the second ward staff kept saying to my partner that they were understaffed - again in this ward I did not want to leave and stayed longer, and it is only when you stay past the time you are due to leave that you fully appreciate how understaffed the night teams are.
Both myself and my partner have offered our support to the hospital from a patient and relative perspective as there are lots of areas that could be improved especially around communication.
