I felt compelled to write a review after seeing the last review posted, as I am having
a very similar experience with my antenatal care. The facilities, and the care received, at the Fetal Medicine Research Unit, have been excellent. I am 32 weeks pregnant and see the out of area midwives at Midwives House. I am yet to see my named midwife, although I did see the same midwife for my last two appointments. The midwives have been helpful when I've had any concerns; however as the previous poster has commented they are clearly very understaffed and I have also waited up to an hour for pre-booked appointments. My main concerns have been in relation to the antenatal services at King's overall, including:
- poor and incorrect/conflicting information and communication about available maternity services
- very limited antenatal workshops/classes or information provided in comparison to other nearby Trusts
- archaic systems in place for booking parenting classes and lack of communication about these
- inability to get hold of the right people to speak to when encountering a problem, and the unhelpful and uncaring attitude or response given by many (not all) staff.
While these issues don't necessarily translate to poor quality of care provided during labour in the midwifery unit/labour ward, they have made me feel anxious and stressed about the birth, and made me question the level of care I will receive. Even at this late stage in pregnancy I'm considering moving my care to a different trust.
