"No dignity or respect on our visit"

About: Gosport War Memorial Hospital

I took my mother to the minor injuries unit after getting very worried about a bad rash on her face. My mum had been to her GP the previous day and they were unsure what had caused it. Allergy or stress were suggested, a course of antibiotics were given to her.

The next day my mums rash had spread to her eye and looked worse than before. We were concerned it may be an allergic reaction and the antibiotics made it worse.

As we were very concerned I drove my mum to the war memorial. The receptionist was lovely however the nurse had a quick look and told us to wait. She was very abrupt and sharp with us. After waiting an hour..... the department was very quiet, the same nurse called us to a chair and did a set of observations without looking at the rash. We were then told to sit back in the waiting room.

After another wait the same nurse came into the waiting room in front of the other patients and told us to go to the GP. This was very embarrassing and disrespectful and made my mum very distressed.

Eventually after waiting hours to see another GP at our surgery the doctor confirmed that it was shingles and an immediate course of antiviral medication needs to start.

The lack of care and respect was dreadful and a complete waste of time. They could have looked at my mums symptoms and prescribed the medication at the war memorial after making us wait over an hour sending us away with nothing, when my mum was in pain and her face and eye weas getting worser by the hour.

I will be taking the matter further.
