A few nights ago my wife suffered a panic attack. She'd received some bad medical news earlier in the day, and was woken up feeling very anxious and unable to calm down. We called 111 who calmly took her symptoms and information. They decided to dispatch an ambulance, which was with us within about 20 minutes. The paramedics were incredibly calm and supportive, explaining what they were doing and why throughout their check up.
They felt it was necessary to refer us to the out of hours care service, more for piece of mind for my wife than anything else, and they made contact on our behalf. We received an appointment within two hours.
We attended the out of hours care unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital and were seen almost immediately by the nurse practitioner on duty. She examined my wife calmly, thoroughly and confidently and explained everything she knew and also everything she didn't know regarding my wife's issue.
I wanted to write this story to specifically single out this nurse practitioner for how invaluable her care was for my wife. We only saw her for about 15 minutes at 3 in the morning, but she was so kind and helpful and really saw to putting my wife's mind at ease.
She did introduce herself to us but it was a fraught time and sadly her name escapes me now. If there's any way to let her know just how important she was to us that night, I would like use it.
"I want to let her know just how important she was to us"
