What I liked
Some of the staff were truly fantastic during my stay and I am so grateful to them for their understanding and support during some horrendous times. This does not go for all staff however who shouted a lot and did not have a great deal of patience.
Food was excellent and a bit ott really. They seemed to care more about patient food than patient mental health.
It was generally a clean and modern ward where everone had their own room.
Staff were very vigilant about potential threats I might pose to myself and I'm grateful they were so vigilant and stopped me from doing stupid stuff when I was down. The Nurses were generally good at keeping their weekly meetings up to date with patients.
They often had Wii sessions and other activities which were theraputic but to be honest the patients are left to rut unless they kick off. That seems to be the only way to get attention.
What could be improved
Communication is truly appaling at this place and for some reason some of the longer term patients have the staff running around after them and can do no wrong!
I agree with a previous statement
"Leave us alone and we'll leave you alone".
Weekly ward meetings were an urban myth and if you think you'll be told when your meetings are thin again! You'll be dragged out of your bed and told to go into the meeting.
Never knew who my nurse of the day was as they didn't bother/ couldn't be bothered to write it down.
Not what I thought a mental ward was going to be like. I thought there would be a lot of therapy going on like: CBT, DBT, art therapy etc but the only therapy that seemed to go on was the unity between many of the patients who were all unwell but able to support each other when staff were too busy or what ever.
Would I want to go back? Only to say hi to some of the staff who were caring and kind during my stay and went out of their way to help me.
Not enough therapy is going on in these places. These patients are ill! They do not need to be kept in front of the telly all day. There should be therapy every single day!!!
I also thinks patients should be on cleaning rotas or something so they don't forget what life in the real world is like.
