After my newborn son lost a lot of his birth weight, I was pointed in the direction of the baby cafe at Huddersfield. At first the support provided was excellent by the Health Visitor. I saw a lactation consultant as they believe my son was tongue tied. I was advised that they couldn’t cut it as it wasn’t ready. This went on for 5 weeks where I attended the cafe every week even after a c section when leaving the house was difficult to be told the same thing weekly. When my son was 6 weeks old I’d had enough and booked a private second opinion. They don’t understand why my sons tongue tie was left so long. This has resulted in not only me needing to pay private but also been in a lot of pain feeding my son unnecessarily. I think making a mum wait for such a simple procedure is disgraceful and no wonder there is a huge reduction in breastfeeding mums.
I would also like to comment on how disorganised and unapproachable I have found one of the volunteers. I find them very rude especially to new people coming to the cafe.
