"Cancer treatment"

About: The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

The Royal Marsden NHS Trust is a large, busy specialist cancer hospital with a well-managed reputation.

My GP referred me to The Royal Marsden for investigations. A consultant surgeon there, led my treatment. Despite using the Royal Marsden's letterhead & clinics etc; the individual was a locum, I now know at this Trust for a short window.

My treatment was unsafe & substandard at many levels. I devastatingly needed alot of further treatment (at other hospitals) and further time off from work to attempt to put right what happened to me.

Despite the above there has to date been no open sharing of what happened to me at this hospital either led by this consultant or the wider unit. It seems the hospital have now felt able to be very open that the consultant was a locum: so to their eyes not their issue and been very measured at best in what they have released.

I have however with the help of other units and consultants had to unravel what we best believe happened to me and form a new plan for me. Given I had a cancer diagnosis & then experienced very poor treatment I have pursued this to try and have some peace of mind about my future risk of issues.

I have been shocked at the lack of co-operation from this Trust. I trusted their brand and claims around excellent care: a huge mistake. They have failed in my treatment and not met their own claims about their excellence and rather than step-up to accept this they have added considerable further stress.

You should be measured by how you treat those you let down as well as others.
