"Trauma turned into a positive experience!"

About: The James Cook University Hospital / Accident and emergency

On Sep 1st, I was admitted to James Cook Hospital with a fractured hip after tripping and falling at Teesside Park. From the moment I arrived in A&E, I was impressed by the high standards of care, respect and compassion. I was moved to the trauma Ward 34 where the high levels of care continued. All of the staff were amazing! Some exceptionally so. I am not allowed to name them here but I will be writing to the CEO to do that. The consultants discussed my options carefully with me as to which would be the best surgery. The surgeon who performed the operation went into more detail with me prior to entering the theatre and reassured me even further. As for the anaesthetist, he was also incredibly reassuring. He even had me laughing before I was anaesthetised, thus removing any last vestiges of anxiety. Back on Ward 34, my recovery was enhanced by the overall experience of nursing care and the general attitude of everyone, including catering and cleaning staff who were unfailingly kind and cheerful. I cannot thank them all enough for turning a traumatic experience into a positive one!
