My dad was admitted to 4a last Friday with suspected AKI. I have spent an average of 2 hours per day trying to contact the ward, solidly, by both direct number of switchboard (much to the embarrassment of the operator). On one occasion, having FINALLY reaching the ward I was told that the nurse would not speak to me because she was going 'on a break' …
Now, I appreciate the operational pressures that hospitals and NHS in general are undergoing (though that is no different to a business in the commercial world, frankly) … and it may be that one the odd occasion the majority of staff may be dealing with on-site emergencies … however, this is EVERYDAY!
He also had "3 Oct discharge" behind his bed when I visited … I asked the nurse 'in charge' of his care - she did not know about this, neither did she know that he had had his CT scan and, indeed, received the results.
He has subsequently developed an additional infection and now back on a drip, on antibiotics and still not discharged … neither can I get through to the ward to check on his current condition, which I suspect will be given as "he's fine" …
Whiston Hospital Management - are you proud of your performance … I'm sure the CQC would not be so …
Thoroughly disappointed
"Do staff know how to use phones!?"
