"very unhappy"

About: Northwick Park Hospital

I comment after attending further to breaking my ankle at end of May.1st Attended physio on 30th July. Now 5th October I am still in a lot of problems with my ankle &now developed serious fitness problems&problems with knees legs&back as a result of the broken ankle. My ankle feels numb.It is still sore¬ fully functional.Boot given by orthopedics gave me serious back ache as it had 1 inch heel so my legs were significantly out of balance in walking. This seems to really caused pain to my back. So also I wanted to point out main things that I have noticed and my experience: 1.I found the physio that I dealt with was not really interested in my ankle problem.I would spend an hour each way to get to and from the hospital for an appointment that lasted less than 10 mins. It seemed to me that they wanted to get rid of me as quickly as possible&they were very pushed for time.

2. I told the physio about the problems that had developed re my back knees&general fitness but they were not interested. Not even told to go back to GP. No interest or concern shown in any way.

3. Physio told me I was discharged but didn't discharge me,no further appointment was agreed, had to organise to carry on attending myself very confusing 4. I admit I cancelled one appointment but that was because it was offered early on monday morning 9am but that was the only appointment for the entire week that was available I had to attend a mental health appointment at IAPT which was at 10am so I was left in an impossible position Physio blamed me for cancelling appointment as if I had chosen to or was too careless to turn up but I didn't have any choice

5. told that physio was away all week but he wasn't

6. When I asked about using the exercise bikes there possibly I was told that I would be able to join/take part in fitness group to do that when I was a bit better - when I asked about if I could use some of the fitness equipment that was visible in the hall but this was never mentioned by the physio again. I realise that I am in an slightly emotional condition as I have broken my ankle but I found it very disappointing as I was looking forward to doing something like that as it would have given me some hope in getting better - but no one there was interested in following up.

7. in effect all that I have gained from attending is the standard sheets with the exercises that I have to do which are available online anyway.

I am so sorry to read about all the problems you have had since you broke your ankle in May and about your disappointment with our physiotherapy.

Can I suggest that you contact our PALS team on 0208 869 5118 or LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net. They will be able to raise your concerns directly with the physio department. We cannot identify you from your post so we cannot help with your specific case but we will pass your feedback onto the team.

Best wishes

Sue
