"Glad to get out after two day and one night."

About: Southmead Hospital

What I liked

My admitance to Southmead on the12th Jan at 7>30am was handled with efficency and care from the time of arrival until the start of my operation approx an hour later.

Thanks... and all of J ward staff that did there best for me on my second day.

What could be improved

After my arrival in J ward I discoverd that I was in an "open room" in the centre of the ward with another patient opposite and sometime towards late evening approx 10.30 it ws decided to replace this patients bed with an "air bed " which has a noisy motor constanly hissing and pumping through the night. My bed was pushed to one side to enable this bed to be placed in the room. My nurse call and water were out of reach and thats how I was left as know attempt was made to put anything back.

Further to this I asked for pain killers and an extra blanket and both were not forthcoming. I begun to get the strong impression that as I was a private patient that I was being somewhat ignored. The patient opposite did not have a catheter fitted and was incontinent of urine therefore requiring the over night nurse to check him out regularly throughout the night..

The combination of the bed motor, the reguler inontinence pad checks and the horredous loud snoring that came forth from this patient kept me awake most of the night!

Finally what an appauling system the Pharmacy operate.

I was ready to leave the ward by 2.30pm the following day having been informed that I should be ok to leave after lunch. My friend arrived at 3.30pm to collect me but my medication from the Pharmacy was not avaliable until 5.30pm!

The Phamacy refuse to give any idication as to when the medication will be avaliable so pity the unfotunate patient who has buses or trains to catch.

Anything else?

The following day the nurses seemed much more attentive. Breakfast was a choice of kellogs or weetabix and toast... thats pretty poor offerings...lunch choices was ok.

Ban patients mobiles after 10pm!
