"On behalf of a Patient"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Respiratory medicine

After suffering a collapsing lung from COPD X was admitted to acute care unit In which I was really happy with the fabulous attention to detail and service, often had a nosey into their Handovers and really happy with the clear communication.

Shortly after moved to gate 45 and had seen a slight improvement in X breathing so I could finally sleep at night to rerun the next day (today) to find X in a panic attack with breathing (also the same day as a doctor has mentioned they may be discharged tomorrow) when I asked why X mentioned had not had the nebuliser at all until 7 PM because they could not find her file!

I appreciate and thank god for the work of all staff members at the hospital but quite frankly no one could of cared less that X tried to make it to the toilet by thereselve and no apology regarding the file, no update on the patient or what's to come next and X was totally out of breath

It is very frustrating as this is people lives at the end of the day and I know there is 100's of people that need those beds but at least give us a Handover so I can take over myself and look after them at home with a lot more peace of mind!

I'm really upset by this experience as some people are too scared to speak up if they need help and it just makes me wonder what would happen if regular visitors like myself weren't their to be on hand

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience.

I am sorry to read of what happened to the patient and from what you have described I can only imagine how anxious both you and the patient must have felt.

It is sad to read that you have been negatively effective by this experience and I wonder if talking to our PALS team would help.

They will be able to look into what has happened so that we can avoid a future reoccurrence.

If you feel able to, please contact the PALS team on 01924 542972 or via email on myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net.

Thank you again.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
