"Paediatric Endrocrinology for teenage son"

About: Rochdale Infirmary / Endocrinology

After waiting 3 months for the referral from our GP, both my son and I were left feeling very let down by our appointment with the consultant today.

We both felt he did not listen to our concerns about my son's unexplained low testosterone levels. We gave him a detailed history of the issues, but he did not seem to fully grasp the issues. At one point advising us that our recollection of our family history must be wrong!

Our GP had led us to believe that further blood test would be necessary to determine the underlying cause of his condition. Yet no further tests were considered, and the consultant nearly forgot to undertake a physical examination. The consultation on such a serious issue for my son lasted barely 10 minutes! To be then told that he had not started puberty because his testosterone levels are too low, which we already knew!

He also failed to close the door for what is a distressing and embarrassing matter for my teenage son.

He also did not seem to care about the serious mental health issues my son has endured as a result of his condition.

Essentially we felt that the consultant dismissed our concerns without any detailed explanation and left us without any answers.

I have contacted our GP for a second opinion as we were left totally dissatisfied with the consultation today.
