"complete mix-up with regards administration,"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

From beginning to end i was treated extremely well, the nurses and staff really kind and helpful, with regards to my treatment for breast cancer.

but after deciding to have a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy it all went wrong. On the day of my operation the whole surgical department was under the impression I was having a lumpectomy, there was not one person , from nurses to the actual surgeon, that had been informed of my decision.. All of the paperwork consisted of my having a lumpectomy. So on the day of my operation i sat there for hours upon end while the schedule for the operation was altered.

7 hours of waiting. i was extremely stressed by this time, and had to really stand my ground to persuade the surgeon that I wanted a mastectomy and told him it had been agreed by the breast care centre 10 days previously.

why then had no one in the surgical department been informed of this.

It was really upsetting to treat me like this, and give me 100% stress on the day of my operation.

We were really sorry to read your story and would like to make sure this doesn't happen again to anyone else going through the service. I have spoken with the teams involved and they would like to talk with you, perhaps when you are next into Musgrove Park or outside of that, if that is preferable for you. Alternatively, if you let us know your details, we can review your notes and respond to you in the format you would prefer.

Would you contact Janet (details below) in the first instance and she can discuss with you how to best take this forward so we can learn from your experience.

Janet Bartlett; Management PA

Breast Care; Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Tel: 01823 343182 or Email: Janet.Bartlett@tst.nhs.uk

Our apologies again for upsetting you on the day of your surgery, this would not have been what we would have wanted to have happened.

Kind regards

Karen
