"Hearing aid provision"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

Along with many of the other reviews here, I am highly disappointed by the current level of service regarding hearing aids. My current NHS aids were provided via Specsavers from whom I had excellent support. With the audiologist services now having been brought 'in house's I had to have a new referral from my GP. The appointment came through in good time and i had a hearing test 25th April. I was told 6-8 weeks to get new aids due to backlog of ordering.

Now, 5 month on, still no progress or outlook as to when the aids are likely to be available.

To add insult to injury, when I tried to call this week I was appalled to hear a recorded message that basically says "We're very busy and understaffed - don't call us, we'll call you -eventually"!!

Hello

I was sorry to read of your concerns regarding the treatment you have received from the Audiology Department. Unfortunately, due to capacity issues within the Department, we are experiencing delays in being able to see patients awaiting hearing tests/aids. A number of Audiologists have left the Trust and, although we are actively recruiting to these posts, we have so far been unsuccessful.

We would like to assure that the Trust is doing everything that we possibly can, including hiring Locums, to try and avoid any further delays in patient care.

If you would like to get in touch with us directly please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 917 6039 or by email at PHT.PALS@porthosp.nhs.uk.

With best wishes

Lisa
