"She took the time to listen"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Gynaecology Western General Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

I was in MAU the day before with left sided pain and vomiting. The doctor had said I would be brought back as an outpatient for an ultrasound scan. I arrived that morning for what I thought was a scan to be told that the doctor decided against it as they wouldn't be able to see anything and it was maybe my Endometriosis. I wanted answers but didn't get them and the doctor didn't even come and speak to me. The doctor was expecting Gynaecology to do the appropriate tests. I was meant to have an appointment previously with Gynaecology but the consultant didn't show up which has meant my appointment is now in December which is helpful when someone is struggling with endometriosis and ending up in hospital due to pain and finding it hard to function.

I'm so disappointed and let down by Gynaecology. The nurse practitioner Jenny  in MAU was so kind as she was only passing on what she had been told. She checked my obs etc and then we sat and had a chat. She was so understanding and took the time to listen to what had been happening for me as the last couple of months my health hasn't been great and understood how much of an impact it had been having on my day to day life. She was able to provide reassurance and I felt like someone in the hospital was actually fighting in my corner and was actually trying to do something to help instead of leaving me to struggle. I just wanted to pass this on and say a big thank you to Jenny. There needs to be more nurse practitioners like you in this world.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback to us about your experience at the Western General. I shall make sure that Jenny sees your feedback, and I am so pleased that you got to witness first hand the great work our teams do every day.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am sure Jenny will be delighted when she sees this.

I am so sorry your health hasn't been good over the past couple of months and that your appointment with Gynaecology has had to be rearranged, we do try not to cancel clinics but sometimes this is outwith our control.

Thank you Frances. I feel it’s important to pass on feedback about services we receive.

I totally understand I think it was more because I turned up after travelling an hour to get to the hospital to find out I couldn’t see the consultant.
