I have recently been treat by two of the departments in the RVI. The first experience I had was with the Emergency Eye department following a phone call to 111, all of the staff were brilliant in dealing with me and reassuring me - the receptionists who booked me in, the triage nurse and the doctor too. Though the wait was quite long, it was completely understandable as staff were rushed off their feet. I have since been back for a follow up appointment which has ultimately put an end to the issue I was having with my vision, the diagnosis was quick and clearly explained and my treatment options were laid out in simple terms. I have been given a further follow up appointment in order to check on my condition in 6 months time to help reassure me that my eyesight is not deteriorating. Fantastic department!
The second experience was just as good, albeit far more scary for me personally. After seeking my GPs advice I was put on a two week waiting list for suspected melanoma - my appointment came through promptly and well within the two week window. I turned up to the melanoma clinic very nervous but was immediately made to feel more comfortable by the staff at reception and a student nurse who offered to wait with me until the Dermatologist was ready to see me. The dermatologist was very understanding and reassuring throughout their assessment, explaining all the way through what they were doing and why. Thankfully the suspected melanoma turned out to be completely harmless. The Dermatologist explained exactly what the mark was and that I had nothing to be concerned about.
Overall I have nothing but praise for this hospital, both departments and all of the staff that dealt with me on all of my visits!
"An excellent hospital!"
