I went to A&E as I had a 40 degree fever and knew immediately this hospital was lacking. It looks old and is falling apart a little bit. However, every single staff member I met was incredibly kind to me, patient, caring and I truly felt looked after. My only gripe was when I had to sleep in the sleep ward, my room had boarded up windows and so no natural light, my bathroom was outside and so dirty - the toilet had skid marks. Also it took them 3 days to give me an official diagnosis and by this point they'd taken 9 blood tests. I had a tropical/infectious disease so I guess these things take longer in countries like here where they're not used to it. Luckily they moved me to Hammersmith hospital afterwards which was much nicer and cleaner.
Also as an out-patient i had to come in for antibiotics. Most days I had the same nurse but for the last few days I had different nurses and it took so long for them to read up on me and figure out what to do. On my final day it took them 6 HOURS because they weren't confident in giving me my antibiotics the way my nurse had the day before. I missed a friends wedding, and I was exhausted. Then to see them give me the antibiotics the same way as the day before - I was so frustrated. My whole day was gone due to this which really upset me - especially as i've been getting these antibiotics for 2 weeks, how're they not prepared?
Overall my experience was in the middle, great staff but some lack of organisation and cleanliness bought my experience down.
"Amazing staff but not so amazing experience"
