I wouldnt normally write this kind of thing because over the last few years I have had many stays in hospital but only in a ward. This was the first time i have been in intensive care and the high dependency ward.
During my stay i was cared for better than i could have hoped for. I was very unwell and this was a very scary time for me. The staff in the ICU were extremely kind and caring. I can not thank them enough. They are a credit to the profession. I then moved next door to high dependency where i was given a single room. I was very grateful for this as i have confidence issues so i was grateful for the privacy. I was only in high dependency for a very short time but i again met some lovely nurses. One called Ashleigh who was my nurse overnight. She kept a close eye on me checking my oxygen levels and blood pressure during the night . The day i was allowed home my nurse was Gillian. My anxiety was quite bad because i was scared i wouldnt be allowed home. She took the time to sit and chat with me and kept me updated about being discharged home. (I was waiting on assessments). Someone raised a touchy subject (one at the centre of my self esteem issues) and the way Gillian handled it was very well done. She lifted me at a time i was feeling very low. She respected my privacy and i did not feel judged. I will always remember this and i dont think a thank you card would have been enough to both wards.
The nurses in this hospital are some of the nicest and friendliest strangers i have ever met.
