About: Raigmore Hospital / Breast Clinic Raigmore Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Had to attend a day surgery appointment to have a lump removed from my left breast.  With a family history of soft tissue cancers, I have always been conscious about what might happen if gone ignored, so from my consultation with the surgeon in the Breast Clinic right through the process, I felt I was in the right place.

The logistics:  Having been admitted at 7:30 a.m, I was 2nd on the list for theatre for the day, so surgery was estimated for late morning.  Post operative care was excellent, and back to the ward by about 1:30 p.m.  I was discharged at about 6pm when my husband and son came to collect me, and drove me home.

My experience:  I cannot speak highly enough of all our amazing NHS Scotland staff at Ward 9B and theatre staff at Raigmore. Each one of them deserve a medal of the highest order for what they do. We should never take these heroes for granted.

From May (Mary) who kept the place spic and span, and provided wonderful conversation and banter of experiences growing up in the Outer Hebrides to newly qualified nurse Meena, who couldn't do enough to keep me monitored and comfy in my recovery back in the ward room. Unfortunately I don't remember names of the staff involved in my care pre and post operative at theatre but they were all amazing. Thank you ❤️.

I was no. 2 on the list, which had my surgery time estimated as late morning. Wheeled up to theatre waiting room in my 'chariot' around 11:15, further checks to make sure I knew who I was and why I was there and pregnancy test too (negative result). All good. Off to theatre and transferred to the theatre gurney. Angels every step of the way.

That night at home, still felt a little foggy from the GA as it took me the best part of an hour to type this post which would normally take me 5-10 mins.

I cannot thank everyone enough for their love and care.
