"Getting seen by a specialist"

About: Balfour Hospital / Dermatology NHS Orkney

(as the patient),

I had bad skin for 4 years thanks to a contraceptive i used in my uni years.

As the doctors i had seen kept telling me it would get better with time and giving me oral and topical medication i had already tried and none of it worked, they did not seem to take my concerns into account, i went to see a new GP that i hadn't met before and was quite frustrated.

When i expressed the same concerns i had to previous doctors she accepted my concerns and referred me to dermatology. I saw a specialist within 6 weeks and got brilliant medication which has made a huge difference to my skin and therefore my confidence as well.

Since then she has always been the doctor i have seen and i feel very safe and sure that she will do anything she can to help with anything i am worried about.

Dear Carsie16

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your comments on the Public Opinion website.

We are very pleased to hear that you have had such a positive experience with your GP and that the treatment suggested for you has been a success.

A good relationship with your GP is very important to all patients and it appears from what you say, that you feel very comfortable with your doctor.

Positive experiences are not always reported as much as negative ones so again, thank you very much for you kind comments.

Julie Tait
