"Waiting time for urgent outpatient appointment"

I've been referred by my GP for an URGENT gynae appointment.

I have an appointment booked for 6 months from now.

I've just phoned the booking office for them to confirm that I am on the urgent list and that I have the soonest appointment available.

My GP wrote his referral letter mid August 2018 and my appointment isn't until mid March 2019, so a 7 month wait in total.

How on earth can it be acceptable to wait so long for an urgent appointment?
