"Accomodation headache"

About: Great Ormond Street Hospital Central London Site

Very in-sensitive to parents. Asking for accommodation makes you feel like a beggar. If they give it somehow they keep calling you for keys as if you are going to run away with the keys. Main reception commits for accommodation but ward is clearly bot helpful and accommodation office is even bad. Imagine parents watching their child going up and down with the health, getting seizures/fits ,not getting well along chemo and mostly goung downhill the treatment and they have to worry about staying the night as well. Someone living close by would be ok to go home but someone who has come from far away has to pay Fuel, congestion and parking on an everyday basis even though child’s bed is on HDU. Im in so much pain and worry at the moment where I can neither leave my sick child in the hospital to go home with my 3 year old , my husband has been to work first day since a month of our little one being admitted in the hospital. Begging and requesting for my child to stay at the ward only because we have no family and friends around to drop him off ,husband has to work we need money while im in tears while writing this review so that they can see the other side of story as well . Nobody will want to come and stay in hospital or ask for accommodation for FUN...!!! I feel no humanity and empathy when it comes to providing accommodation to family. Running back and forth for it and now sitting in despair. Helpless as cant take the sick child out of here and not sure what im gonna do, they will never understand how it feels because they have rooms but they dont want to give them! Very in-humane!!

Thank you for taking the time to share your poor experience.

We want parents and carers to know that they are essential to shared care of children and young people and that together, staff and parents, can provide that care.

To do this parents will need somewhere to stay at night and we are very sorry that this was not as easy and welcoming as we want.

We have shared your experience with the Accommodation Team to help improve their service.

If you have anything else you need help with please contact our Patient Advice service on pals@gosh.nhs.uk or telephone 02078297862.

Thank you again for your help in improving our services.
