I arrived by ambulance with the most severe head pain. I told the admitting nurse I did get migraines. The pain was severe, it was difficult to do anything, even speak or concentrate on what people were saying. I’m not sure why the nurse insisted on talking about her experience with migraine and acupuncture. Didn’t she realise a person of my age with a lifetime of migraine, has tried just about everything? Didn’t she realise I was in severe pain and really couldn’t chat?
I was shown to the chairs by the windows at the far end of the cubicles. I sat there for about 3 hours in pain, it seemed longer. No one explained why I was waiting in pain. There was no screen giving any information. I’m still not sure why I wasn’t offered any help with the pain. I’m assuming the staff were busy with more life threatening problems.
Gradually my pain started to ease. I think all the antiemetics and painkillers I had taken at home had eventually made it into my system. By the time I saw the Dr the pain had more or less gone. I was just weak and shakey.
I just need to know if this is the usual treatment for patients with head pain, or any severe pain for that matter.
Thanks to the nurse who checked my BP a few times.
Sorry I can’t give star ratings, I was in too much pain to take notice of anything else.
