"Mammogram"

About: Teddington Memorial Hospital Hrch

I was dreading my first mammogram as had heard so many stories about it being painful, embarressing and just unpleasant but can I reassure any other women out there wondering whether to have it or not that Teddington was amazing.

It was much quicker than I thought, I was treated with dignity, kindness and respect and I felt no more than a slight squeeze, certainly not painful in any way.

You are not told your results at the time, you will receive a letter 2 or 3 weeks after the mammogram to say whetehr you need to return or not.

The lady doing the mammogram gently explained not to panic if I am asked back as it often turns out to be a cyst or something benign.

The vast majority of women will be fine and not need to return. I don't yet know my results but I am glad I have faced up to having it done.

Like most things, the reality of the procedure is way better than the worrying leading up to it.

I was so impressed and wanted to reassure other women to go if they were having doubts.

I had lunch with my husband straight after so you are fine to just get on with your day and your life.

Good luck - and don't delay as that is when the real dangers begin.
