My grievance is not with the District Nurses but the access to them. It is a long time since I had the services of a nurse and how things have changed. It is now a do-it-yourself service. I have to make an appointment via a call centre, and prepared myself for a long wait. Up to half an hour and always at least fifteen minutes. It answers and I am then in a queue which I pay for, it is not a free phone number. When I get to speak to a person I get allotted an appointment anywhere in Oldham, wherever there is a slot. Whether or not I have easy access to transport.
If, when I have seen the nurse, I need dressings etc, I get given a prescription to fill at a pharmacy. When I tried, I had to visit 3 before I left it to be ordered, this is what I mean by do-it-yourself.
There is only the one number, which means that carers, doctor, receptionist and nurses all face the same wait to speak to someone. Imagine that. It must cost the NHS a small fortune in wasted time
