Last Friday I had a sudden onset of a fast heart rate, this is something that had never happened to me before. My GP referred me to the Medical Admissions Unit 1 at Victoria Hospital the same day for further assessment. I was anxious about this as I have never been in this department before and have previously had no problems with my heart.
I was met at the reception desk by a support work who explained what would happen next and led me into the unit to a waiting room for further assessment. I was quickly met by a staff nurse, who introduced herself and put me a ease. It was evident that the unit was very busy and the nurse was under stress but at no point did I feel I my care was being rushed. I was dealt with very quickly and professionally by all members of staff. I had my observations and bloods taken and had an ECG very quickly. I was kept informed about what would happen next. I felt listened to and respected by staff. I was seen by a Cardiologist who explained my diagnosis and discharged home with a plan of action. I can't thank the staff enough, and I appreciate all the hard work from staff on what appeared to be a very busy ward.
"I appreciate all the hard work"
