"Visiting times are not family friendly"

About: Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

the visiting times are just not family friendly.

I have five children and my children have additional needs. My husband struggles to attend at 2pm and then complete the school run, he cant come after school because it’s only two visitors per bed and it means he would need to visit without the children.

Ive always been allowed to have him visit earlier on his own to bring what I need and just have time to say hello. Today this has all stopped and new visiting hours enforced with no understanding at all.

To say I am stressed and upset is a complete understatement and the additional stress will certainly not help my condition, it will also mean I will wait even longer to return when I am poorly. This ultimately will put my life at risk and cost the trust more money to treat me when I’m critical. I really think this hospital has no understanding what its like having to return over and over again.

We are very sorry for the problems that your husband had with visiting, and agree that having visitors can be extremely beneficial and help with recovery and wellbeing. Although our ward visiting hours are usually from 2pm to 7pm, if this is difficult we would encourage the visitor to speak with the ward sister or to contact our Matron's Helpline on (07826) 858846, as we can agree alternative visiting times with relatives on an individual basis where possible.
