"Diabetic Retinopathy-Stable"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Ophthalmology

Attended for my follow up appointment, clearly a mix up with the appointment which wasn't my fault however i understand this can happen, we are all only human. It is very frustrating when some clinical staff, in this case the sister, obviously can't accept that sometimes the patient can be right, no empathy or discretion used. The consultant was expecting me, trying to explain this was going in one ear and out the other, she was very patronizing. It is very stressful anyway suffering with a long term condition without having to give an explanation in a non confidential environment which then resulted in me becoming upset. In the end after approximately a 20 minute wait, while the sister scrutinized me, she decided to speak to the consultant face to face, and yes he did confirm that i had been booked in to the incorrect clinic and i was there to see him. The sister then tried to blame the consultant who for over 20 years as treated me with respect and dignity, saved my site and has always been accommodating. I thought nursing was an empathetic, caring and listening role, please try and implement this when dealing with your patients in future.
