"blackpool victoria surgical appliances"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

(as the patient),

I've recently been to pick up my shoes and insoles. The third visit. The insoles were wrong again (second time) and are to be remade (third attempt). I find my current shoes dangerous and yet again farely simple insoles which havent changed for years have not been made correctly. I feel that the service is poor and potentially dangerous to patients.

Orthoses for patient’s feet are constructed using the experience of a team of highly skilled and dedicated staff whose total focus is upon improving the patients comfort and mobility.

It is an unavoidable part of the bespoke footwear and insole manufacturing process that corrections will need to be made to products in order to accommodate individual changes.

In the case of insoles, these adjustments can be simple, - a minor trim to fit a changing shoe profile, or a remake

If you feel that your condition is being compromised please contact the Surgical Appliances Department for an urgent review.

The department are currently on thier 3rd attempt to reproduce replica insoles that I've been getting for approx. 10 years. They keep getting the depth wrong. Its not rocket science.

Each attempt takes about four to five weeks, it's no wonder I'm relying on dangerous shoes. My condition has been compromised for many, many years and I've complained many times over the past ten plus years to various people including the last chief executive (this did eventually prompt some action but the department has gone back to its old ways).

I constantly contact the department with little effect on my compromised condition. Urgent reviews are a joke as you are given a six week appointment, then wait for the shoes to be made taking six months plus, by which time you are walking around in your only pair of shoes which by this time are stretched, badly worn, squeaking and dangerous.

On my last visit I was told problems only happen to me. All I can say is that it's been happening to me for most of the time I've used the department.

I understand the fact that the shoes are specially made etc, but the overall time to get a pair of shoes including mistakes is much too long. It would be eased if three pairs of shoes were supplied and may prevent ulcers and their expensive complications.

These problems must be affecting other patients and causing medical complications.

I picked up this departments third attempt at insoles. They are incorrect again, and I will have to take them back again! It will be their fourth attempt to replicate a pair or fairly straight forward insoles. This will take another four to five weeks and in total about one quarter of a year and still waiting for insoles I think this service is useless. How do I get a pair of shoes and insoles I can wear before I end up damaging my feet and spending month and months may be years with problems??? Does anyone manage this department or monitor performance.?????
