"A&E overworked through overstretched services"

About: Leighton Hospital / Accident and emergency

my Experience is during July and August with my parent on palliative care. On both occasions we had to access medical care at a weekend via A&E as other supporting services use this as a referral pathway. My poor parent on both occasions waited hours on a trolley in a long queue. It reminded me of a third world news clip! It is not a complaint about the staff as they represented the NHS at its best. They are over stretched, and the other issues is mental health and alcohol related cases, taking up time/space/resources in an accident and Emergency dept. My parent did not fit any criteria other than palliative care but had to access Accident/Emergency. We need to get back to community care supporting our over stretched A&E

We are very sorry for the care your parent experienced.

We acknowledge that experiences like this are distressing for patients and their carer’s and we are currently working closely with Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP) to help transform the services we provide.

This week CCICP launched a new model for community services, that will better provide our patients with high quality and safe care in the right place and at the right time.

If you would like to discuss you concerns any further we would be more than happy to do so, if you could contact us via the Customer Care Team on 01270 612410 or via email customercareteam@mcht.nhs.uk

Kind Regards

Palliative Care Team
