About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Accident and emergency

We visited A&E today with my daughter as she had hurt her ankle. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the hospital and the organisation of the staff, we were seen quickly and efficiently. The receptionist on A&E was lovely, the triage nurse was lovely and friendly and put my daughter at ease and the radiologist was lovely too but unfortunately the nurse we seen in between was not. After the triage nurse saw my daughter and told us she would need X-ray we were called back in a few minutes later by who I presume was a head nurse/nurse in charge who was very off hand, abrupt and on the verge of rude with the tone of voice she addressed me with. She seemed lacking in care or compassion and made us feel like a burden/annoyance due to being booked in for an X-ray . Her people skills left a lot to be desired especially as she was dealing with children. I left A&E feeling like I was a dramatic mother when all’s I wanted was to make sure my daughter was ok.

Thank you for telling us about your experience when visiting our A&E department with your daughter.

It is wonderful to read that you were impressed with both the cleanliness of the hospital and the efficiency of our staff. Whilst it appears we did get so many things right I am sorry that we were unable to maintain this throughout your daughter’s journey.

I will share your comments with the teams involved however if you feel it appropriate and so that we can get further details about what has happened and ensure that your concerns are fully investigated please can you contact our Patient Relations team directly on:

bfwh.pals@nhs.net

I hope that your daughter is ok and thank you once more for sharing your experience.

Kind Regards

Andrew
