I attended the Gateway Centre for keyhole surgery and was well looked after before my surgery. Sadly I can't say the same for afterwards. The surgeon did not speak to me after the operation, deciding instead to address me as my bed number from across the room and give me a thumbs up. The nurses were friendly but left me sat in a chair by the window for several hours. Despite taking contact details for my mum to notify the surgery was complete, it was I who had to let her know I was awake and then who had to call her to come and collect me. Upon discharge I was given no aftercare information other than when to change the dressings and no follow up appointment. I had to rely on the NHS website for information. As if that wasn't enough, I received a call the following day telling me my blood test results gave two different blood types (as they'd been mixed up) and I needed to return for another blood test so they could know which was correct. Good job I didn't need a transfusion during the op.
