"Supposed to be patient focused care"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Orthotics

(as a relative),

My mum is and 82 year old with Parkinson's disease, she cannot mobilize without special shoes and a leg brace prepared by the Orthotic Department at Gartnavel General Hospital Glasgow.

My mum needed new shoes and a brace, to date this has been delayed for 8 months  for various reasons,  recently she attended the clinic only to discover staff had entered the wrong shoe size, another delay, she was upset and her mood became low now, she has now received a letter stating her next appointment for October has been cancelled and the next one will be December, she cannot wait until December to walk properly again!!!! what do we do? can we pay to have shoes made privately ?she has fallen twice as her foot turns over in her old shoes, she has bruises to her hip and head (she landed on the fireplace) but thank god no breaks.

NHS pledge "to cause no harm" too late !!!

Dear loza

I am sorry to read about the delays your Mum has been experiencing whilst waiting for new shoes and a brace.

With your Mum’s permission, can you please forward me your Mum’s personal details including her date of birth so that we can look into this further? My email address is Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk?

Please pass on my apologies to your Mum.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Ioza,

I was sorry to hear that your mums appointment had been cancelled and moved to December. When we looked into this issue it appears to have been due to some changes to our clinic diaries following a member of staff leaving the service. When this happens, until a new person takes over some appointments are moved into the future, however we do our best to identify when this has happened and offer patients who are effected sooner appointments so their treatment is not delayed. I apologise that this has been the case for your mum but thank you for highlighting this to us so we can try to make sure this does not effect patients in future where possible.

Kind Regards

Nicola Munro
