"Mental health"

About: Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at the age of 10 and saw a psychiatrist until just before I turned 18. I was then diagnosed with depression and high anxiety in 2011 in my early 20ies. I battled for 5 years until I finally saw a psychiatrist in Nottinghamshire. I barely received help, bearing in mind the psychiatrist originally put me on anxiety meds that were a red line drug and shouldn’t be mixed with the anti depressants I’m on without actually meeting me (this is before my first appointment).

It took over 2 years of my GP referring me for me to be seen. Almost like my name kept dropping off the list. I recently in Jan 2018 moved to Derbyshire to move in with my partner and have had to start the mental health cycle all over again. My new GP has been amazing but he can’t change the meds I’m currently on without me seeing a psychiatrist - he’s tried to refer me on multiple occasions now and finally in July I received an appointment for the middle of September to see a psychiatrist. I thought this is the light at the end of the tunnel appearing. How wrong was I. I received a letter the other day cancelling my appointment ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’. I’m back at square one on medication that isn’t working for me. I feel suicidal and my partner is worried that a second appointment is going to come too late. He’s written a letter to the mental health clinic stating he’s worried by the time I receive an offer of help there may be no patient to help. I’m incredibly sad and lost and I’m tired of fighting - my whole life has been a battle with my Asperger’s and my mental health issues. It’s almost like the NHS want me to try and end my life before they will actully help. I just want help and it shouldn’t be so much of a battle - surely it’s my basic human rights to have some care? ? ? ?
