In response to the story uploaded by the Voice of Truth, I would like to say that I personally have not found any truth or substance in the claims made in this posting. I have also been a part of the volunteer group in the past and have always found the group supportive of other service users and they actively encourage service users accessing ANY services at Ashley House to join the group and air their views and opinions.
I was made to feel welcome and was encouraged to get involved in any of the activities or projects that the group were trying to initiate. I felt that the core group members, rather that being 'clicky' were tring their best to promote service user involvement in difficult circumstances and without a structured, rigid volunteer policy.
The very nature of the environment means that some people involved in the volunteer process were not necessarily 'stable' in their recovery as the Voice of Truth states, but this should in no way be a barrier to service user involvement, led with the correct staff support.
