"Mums appointment"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a relative),

Mum is in the later stages of dementia and had an appointment at this clinic.

As a family we were really dreading it because with  dementia you can never be sure how things might play out. Also the nature of the appointment could seem particularly invasive to someone with dementia.

From the moment we entered the building, staff were incredibly kind but most importantly patient focused and made sure mum was seen as quickly as possible In order to maintain as much calm as possible in the situation.

We saw Doctor Martin, and whilst medical knowledge is obviously a must,  a truly important facet in the care of others is empathy and calm and he was both. He considered the welfare of his patient (my mum) most carefully .

I’ve never felt compelled to take time and write about any experience of care services but as daughter with a parent who lives with dementia I felt it really important to share this positive experience and thank Dr. Martin and the staff.

Dementia is becoming ever more prevalent in our society and staff at this clinic deserve all credit for their kindness, sensitivity and professionalism

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Tres,

I can only agree with all you have said about Dementia and I am really heartened to hear that you and your mum were treated with kindness, sensitivity and professionalism.

Thank you sincerely for taking time to share this. Not only does it help staff to get such lovely feedback and gratitude, it helps to reassure other prospective patients and their family; and that is invaluable too.

I have passed this on to the team and Dr Martin, I am sure it will really be appreciated by the whole team. (I nearly passed it to Doc Martin (Martin Clunes) but I could not find his email address).

I hope your mum is fine and any results are good.

Best wishes,

Eunice
