What I liked

I’ve been looked after by the Emergency Gynaecology Unit for the past six months and it is just fantastic. You can feel it is great from the moment you walk in - the staff are all calm and efficient yet very caring.

Since I first turned up shaky and bleeding in early pregnancy I’ve been treated with a compassion and professionalism that made my subsequent rollercoaster journey easier to bear. I was always seen very swiftly and the people who scanned me took time to talk through my concerns. After a few positive scans, I miscarried. Obviously it was dreadful but the sensitive and compassionate treatment I received from the nurses and doctors made it more bearable. Every time I went to the EGU, I felt they did everything they could for me.

I fell pregnant again and with further complications but again everything was done at the EGU to look after me mentally, psychologically and physically. I will especially mention the nurse specialist. On several occasions, one when I was at my most distressed, they really went out of their way to help and made a massive difference to my state of mind. I felt I had someone in my corner. But I saw many nurses at this unit and they were great without exception.

What could be improved

The day surgery unit nurses were also efficient but caring. I felt distressed but I also felt looked after.

Also, whoever agreed the funding to allow women to get their down’s blood tests results with a couple of hours of their 12-week nuchal scan should be given an award. It’s so reassuring at a stressful time.
