I have been admitted a few times since January when my bowel burst open.
I was on ward 46 in January, Ward 44 in July and finally on Ward 46 in August again for my surgery.
I arrived at ward 45 on 20th August for my scheduled operation to remove a large section of my bowel with a hospital stay of between 7 and 10 days, having been admitted on two previous occasions for a perforated bowel which wasn't healing it was decided that surgery was my best option as my bowel was diseased and not getting any better.
Everyone from the anaesthetist, my consultant and all of the staff were brilliant and they all took time to re-assure me before the operation itself.
My operation was a success and my scarring is minimal.
After the operation, the following day, everyone involved in the operation, my consultant, two surgeons and the anaesthetist came to visit me at different times and explain what happened in the four hour operation.
They were all very brilliant and I was astounded that they took the time afterwards to explain everything in great context.
The staff on ward 46 were brilliant and nothing, and I mean, nothing was too much trouble,
I was there for 8 days and they made sure that my healing process following my operation was as easy as possible.
There was a member of staff in and out of my bay almost every five minutes during the day, they really really looked after everyone and got to know everyone personally.
