"Appalling lack of communication"

About: Friarage Hospital Site / General medicine

Was admitted to the CDU ward via my GP, who suspected possible bacterial pneumonia. Between 11am and 1pm I had a number of consultations, blood tests, an ECG and lastly a chest x-ray. That's it ! I heard nothing at all until just after 9pm when the Night Sister told me I had a viral infection and required no medication. She was surprised I had not had a visit from the Consultant or Doctor after the tests were concluded and results collated. Apparently the records showed I had had a post tests consultation. I had NOT.

I did NOT discharge myself, but left at 2.15am Friday morning by taxi with The Sister's help, organisation and (importantly) authorisation. She was very attentive and understanding of the situation; I arrived home at 3.30am.

FOUR days later, I still have the symptoms. I felt like a number, not a person. Shameful.
