"Prescribed medication I am allergic to and..."

About: Barnet Hospital

In May this year following attempts to deal with recurring gout issues using the standard medication my doctor referred to the Rheumatology Clinic as he had run out of options. I am still waiting for an appointment and we are almost past the 18 week government deadline for a service failure.

While waiting In early July I had a flare up in my knuckles for the first time. The area is still swollen, hot, throbbing and tender, I am unable to put on a sock, tie a shoelace etc. I attended Enfield Chase walk in and was given three days worth of steroids and advised if the pain and discomfort continued to go to Barnet General A&E as I could get blood tests completed in real time. On the first visit I was told my condition was not really a matter for A&E and given three days worth of Colchicine this did not bring any relief. I tried to live with the pain and wait for the appointment but a month later made my second visit to Barnet General A&E I was given some steroids and was moved on to the Ambulatory Care Team. A few days later more blood tests etc confirmed higher levels of uric acid so on 10th August 2018 I was given medication (allopurinol) that I am possibly allergic to combat this flare up and discharged.

On 13 August 2018 I checked with my doctor who strongly advised me not to take the medication as I had shown strong indicators of being allergic to it and that was the reason for the original referral. He also stated that he after having seen my hand for the first time that her would send an emergency referral to the Rheumatology team.

Well, I am currently in pain, concerned about losing my job and still waiting for an appointment.
