"Whats the point??"

About: Erith & District Hospital

Went to the UCC 19:00 Thursday 30th August with a large gash on the back of my head which obviously needed stiches...…….couldn't even get past the receptionist who told me to go to A&E, without anyone even looking at my wound.

What qualifies this receptionist to make these judgements and who has given her this authority.

What on earth is the point of an Urgent Care Centre when you are in need of UC and are sent away by an unqualified individual and you cant even get to see anyone to make an informed decision or even do a simple open wound stitching??

Went from there to A&E QE Woolwich where after 3 hour wait had 9 staples put in my head.

The waiting area at Erith seemed to be full of people with no apparent or obvious health problems, apart from myself who had blood pouring from an open wound..

Probably a good place to go if you have a hangover .

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, I am sorry you felt the Service you received at Erith Urgent Care Centrew was not of the standard you were expecting. Receptionists should always check with a Clinician before giving advice and I would think this was the case when you went there as you are correct they cannot make Clinical decisions but I will invesitgate this further. The advice you were given was infact correct a Head injury that required 9 staples would be significant enough to be seen in A&E to rule out any complications. The Urgent Care Centre sees and treats minor injuries and illnesses.

I am unable to comment on the patients that were waiting to be seen but think it is harsh to say there was nothing wrong with any of them as we do not know that, and to suggest wasting NHS resources for a Hangover is something I would not agree with.

Once again thank you for your feedback which I will share with the wider team so we may take any learning from it to improve the Service, and I do hope you are now recovering.

Best Wishes
