I found out that I had a large tumour in my neck which a number of different specialists across the UK where unsure as to exactly what it was. I am a 29 year old Doctor who has trained and worked in the UK (although never in London) for more than 10 years in more than half a dozen hospitals.
I sought an opinion from the team at Imperial after getting 2 other opinions in major UK hospitals because of the uncertainty about my condition.
From the first time I met the Surgical team I was impressed by how clear they were in their communication and how thorough they were in the work up to my surgery. I saw a number of incredible specialists, in vascular surgery, ENT and radiology.
I was admitted to Charing Cross on a Friday before a bank holiday weekend when I had my surgery. It went very indeed and I did not have any complications. My post -operative medical and nursing care was exceptional. All of my symptoms were accounted for pre-emptively and I was reviewed by the medical team every day over the bank holiday weekend who really reassured me.
Every single one of the nurses who looked after me for the 3 days I was in was clearly well informed and genuinely very caring. I was in a bay with another couple of patients who had enormous operations which required very regular nursing attention, particularly during the first night of my admission, and the nurses were with them tirelessly all night.
I feel enormously thankful for the excellent care I received from all at Charing Cross Hospital and would feel happy with any member of my family being cared for in that department.
